Good Morning

One cold dark morning, a woman awoke in a startle. Her mind raced with flashes of dreams. Slowly, what seemed like, reality seeped back into her consciousness. She realized that she was not where she thought she’d awake. Her hands and feet were soaked from the morning dew that lay on the fresh grass beneath her. Sweat dripped down her forehead, tickling her eyebrows. As she rose off the ground she instantly realized that her body was bare. Her body glistened in the sunrise. Oddly enough, fear was nowhere to be found. Instead she was mystified by the strange serenity which had taken a hold her.

Without cause she spoke.

“My name is...”

And with that she once again puzzled.

The serenity seemed to be slowly retreating. It was replaced with a heightened sense of awareness and the sound of her heart beating. As if in response to her sudden worry, she heard a strange melody. Her name did not seem to be of much importance as the melody began to enchant her. Enthralled, she delicately walked towards it without disrupting a single blade of grass. The grass buzzed with appreciation.

“You’re most welcome,” she said with a slight smile as she continued her nimble pace.

The melody seemed to be getting louder. She saw brilliant waves of colour that pulsed along to the sounds she heard ahead of her. The closer she got to the sound the more her world was awash with vibrant shades of the most beautiful colours she had ever seen. The encounter was so overwhelming that she began to weep. She cried harder and harder. Her sobbing caused her to collapse onto her knees. She was in no pain. It’s as if the sight and sound she experienced was not meant for her. Her tears were stirred only because she was unable to comprehend the magnificence.

With her eyes shut, amid her sobs, she whispered, “Why?”

And with that, all that she had heard was gone. Nothing but silence remained.

“Why what sweets?” asked a weary masculine voice.

She slowly opened her stubborn eyes which wished to remain closed. She saw her slightly worn ceiling fan devotedly rotating above her. Covered by her plush familiar smelling over-sized quilt, she once again felt at ease. A large muscular arm grabbed a hold of her waist and pulled her. With a sigh of relief, she smiled and turned around.

“Good Morning, my name is...” she said softly before she whispered her name into his ear.

The man looked at her confused. She smiled sheepishly, hugged him tightly and fell back asleep hoping to awake in another field of grass.
